New Play Night! |
|
|
It is official! The Euchre Club of Chicago is adding
a fourth night of Euchre on Tuesday nights at
the Center on Halsted (3656 N Halsted St). Our first
play night will be Tuesday, August 7. Sign up
will begin at 7:00pm, and play will start at 7:30pm.
Some additional information for you:
- The CoH is a "BYO" facility, so if you want
to grab a brew (or two) to bring with you,
that's cool. If you're nice, we may even bring a
cooler filled with ice.
- When Whole Foods opens (first week of
August, fingers crossed), there will be parking
available in the building. Technically you
should buy something at Whole Foolds if you
park there -- no word if they sell 45-ouncers.
- There are a plethora of restaurant choices
in the area -- grab some dinner and c'mon over!

I've seen a lot of players playing Bridge lately.
Can playing Bridge make you a better Euchre player?
Bridge to Nowhere
Dear BTN--
Continuing what we started last week, yes, using a
"point system," similar to the point systems used in
bridge, can indeed help you decide whether to call
trump or not. If you think trying to add up to 21 or
16 (the opening and second round recommended point
totals) takes a lot of effort, then grab a deck of
cards, and practice dealing out hand after hand.
You'll be adding them up in no time at all like a
pro.
A word of caution, though. Most experienced
players are much more aggressive than these
guidelines, so if you wait until your hand adds up
to either 16 or 21, you may find youself
consistently outbid by your opponents, which means
you'll be left playing with yourself.
