Welcome to the Euchre Club of Chicago weekly newsletter
-- a collection of event information, club news, gossip,
advice, and things that amuse us from the Internets. And
there's no truth to the rumor that we find ourselves bitter,
clinging to our faith and our guns.
If you have ideas, gossip to divulge, humorous thoughts,
abject praise, rampant criticism, ideas to improve the club,
or you're just kinda lonely and want to talk, send a note to
euchrechicago@yahoo.com.

TOC 3 - The Aftermath |
 |
|
Another Tournament of Champions is behind us, and
was our most successful TOC yet -- with 10 tables
(40 people!) of Sunday afternoon Euchre Fun!
Congratulations to our big winners!
1st Place - David Rothen
2nd Place - Gregory Ward
3rd Place - Greg Para
4th Place - Steve Rosemurgy
And as a special treat for anyone who was eliminated
after their first two games, we hosted a special
"Paul Zehren Invitational" - 3 games of normal
Euchre, with the grand prize being put back in the
TOC as a wildcard! And congrats to Greg Para for
topping the PZI and placing in the TOC!
And finally, thank you to everyone who contributed
to the club's 50/50 raffle. We raised $400, and
while the winner didn't draw the Jack of Spades to
claim the whole pot, he did donate $100 back to the
club, so that's an extra $300 going toward new
tables and chairs.
So be sure to keep an eye out for the TOC4 -- coming
soon! (well, not too soon . . . Dan and Geoff need
some recovery time...)

Things That'll Break Your Heart from the Internets |

From the Internets this week, a clip from British TV
show "Britain's Got Talent (just not teeth)." Meet
13- year old Andrew Johnston, who despite constant
bullying from the kids at school, keeps singing
anyway. Once you hear him, you'll know why.

Ask Hoyle |
 |
Dear Hoyle --
What's the deal on Tuesdays? I hear some people say
they suck -- lowest average of the week, and other
people say it's like taking candy from a baby. Do
Tuesdays suck, or are Tuesdays secretly the best
night of the week? - Bringing Averages Down
Daily All Year
Dear BADDAY:
If you ask around the club, there are sure to be
groups of people who hate every night of the week
for one reason or another. Some people hate Sundays
because they think God takes extra special aim at
them for skipping church. Wednedays are too crowded
and competitive. Saturdays are too distracting with
the naked rugby players. Tuesdays have too many new
people. So what's the real story?
There is no bad night of the week -- it's all in
your head. Tuesdays are the ideal night for the
beginner Euchre player, or someone who enjoys a much
less competitive atmosphere -- and with 3-5 tables
the norm, you've got great odds at winning the bar
tab (or free plays). Wednesdays are good for the
competitive gamer in all of us. Saturdays have
Wednesday's crowds, but a more relaxed, congenial
atmosphere. And Sundays are just fun -- good crowd,
good atmosphere, cheap drinks.
So if you find yourself doing worse on one
particular night of the week -- then skip that night
for a month or so. What you'll probably find is that
your "bad luck night" moves to another night,
meaning it has nothing to do with fate, the cards or
the day of the week -- it's all in your head.
If you have a question about Euchre strategy,
ECC club rules, relationships or just
life in general, send an e-mail to resident
expert Hoyle at

are anonymous, and the answers may just

The World Series of Euchre
|
|
|
|
Have you grown bored of our tournaments, and perhaps
your constant bar-tab winning has grown tiring
(*cough Dan Miracle cough*)? Perhaps you're ready to
take it to the next level with the World Series of
Euchre.
This year's world series takes place October 2 - 5
in Las Vegas. The good news, however, is that the
qualifying tournament is August 15 - 17 in Oak
Brook. Entry fee for the qualifying tournament is
nominal, and if you participate in the qualifier and
make it to the world series, the ECC will pay your
entry fee into Las Vegas (travel is up to you,
however).
For more information, visit
grandprixtournaments.com or speak with Dan
Miracle. Good luck!
