Euchre Club of Chicago Vol 3.32
Newsletter
April 24, 2007

Dear Ron,

Welcome to the Euchre Club of Chicago weekly newsletter, a wacky, entertaining collection of things about the club, upcoming events, and occasional things that amuse us from the Internets. And there's no truth to the rumor that we bombed at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner.

If you have ideas, gossip to divulge, humorous thoughts, abject praise, rampant criticism, or ideas to improve the club, send a note to euchrechicago@yahoo.com.

  • Sanjaya Who?

Who could have ever seen that coming? America's sweetheart, Sanjaya, was finally shown the door on American Idol. That just leaves six popstar-wannabes who need your love. Who do you love least this week? Who is going home Wednesday night? If you correctly pick the eliminated singer, you could win a free play! Visit our survey and tell us who is going home (and be sure to leave us your first and last name too). All entries are due by Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00pm CDT. Once the show is over, we'll draw a name at random from everyone who correctly identified the weakest Idol.

Oh, and if you take the survey, be sure to click the "exit this survey" like when you're finished so your vote is recorded.

    Good Luck!

TTheatre Review - The Color Purple

    From ECC member Geoff Dankert

The Color Purple is a courageous book: parental rape, spousal abuse, poverty and lesbian love triangles don't usually add up to mass appeal. On stage, The Color Purple, now playing at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, retains all of its courage, and blends well-chosen moments of humor and grace. Jeannette Bayardelle is amazing as Celie, the center of the story whom the audience sees gracefully age from teens to 60s. Felicia P. Fields' turn as Sofia is as powerful as her voice, and ex-"Destiny's Child" Michelle Williams brings a note of Xtina to Shug Avery's bisexual siren. The first act is perfectly paced and performed, and more than good enough to make up for a little meandering in the second act. The audience, as diverse a theatre crowd as I've ever seen, was entertained by the story and moved by the performances. They loved it. So will you.

    Ask Hoyle

Dear Hoyle: I know you've probably answered this before, but what's the best way to, um, score with another member? - Hard Up

    Dear HU:
There are two sure-fire ways to make a conquest: Booze and flattery. If you're more Ugly Betty and less America's Next Top Model, then I definitely suggest you go the booze route. Get your target completely loaded and you'll find them like putty in your hands. Unfortunately after that much booze, there's a lot more that'll be like putty. The other route, flattery also works well if your looks and personality don't frighten small children -- butter them up and you'll be surprised at how well they will respond. It's true that flattery will get you everywhere.

Now say your face could stop clocks and your personality is akin to a toad? Then I might suggest the next black out night at the Eagle where you can hope -- and reach -- for the best. But please let me know when you're going so I can make other plans.

If you have a question about Euchre strategy, ECC club rules, relationships or just life in general, send an e-mail to resident expert Hoyle at euchrechicago@yahoo.com. We promise all e- mails are anonymous, and the answers may just surprise you.

    And the Final Survey Results

And finally, we take a look at your overall impressions of the club, which thankfully seem to be pretty good!

75% of you LOVE the club, and the other 25% Like the club -- nobody hates us, so that's a good sign.

74% of you LOVE the weekly newsletter, and only 3% of you are ambivalent (you bastards, you know who you are!)

Variation nights didn't do as well, with 23% loving them, 26% liking them, and 31% ambivalent about them. With only 6 people who hate variation night, it's safe to say they'll be around for a while, but we'll try to warn everyone as far in advance so they can skip that night if they want.

94% of you Love or Like the anniversary Parties and Tournaments, and Theme Nights scored highest in the "Like It" category.

As always, please don't feel like you have to wait for the annual survey to voice your opinion. If you have an idea or suggestion on how to make the club better, send us an e-mail at euchrechicago@yahoo.com.
