Euchre Club of Chicago Vol 4.38
Newsletter
April 29, 2008

Welcome to the Euchre Club of Chicago weekly newsletter -- a collection of event information, club news, gossip, advice, and things that amuse us from the Internets. And there's no truth to the rumor that we're guest-starring on "How I Met Your Mother."

If you have ideas, gossip to divulge, humorous thoughts, abject praise, rampant criticism, ideas to improve the club, or you're just kinda lonely and want to talk, send a note to euchrechicago@yahoo.com.

Forget the primaries, and superdelegates, and all that Presidential stuff. It's time for an election that really matters!

Nominations will be accepted beginning May 1st for the Euchre Club of Chicago Board of Directors. Members will vote on President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and directors for the Club's four nights of play.

Here is the current slate of candidates:

    • President -- Ron Hall
    • Vice President -- Marv Leach
    • Secretary -- Dave Judy
    • Treasurer -- David Rothen
    • Tuesday Director -- OPEN
    • Wednesday Director -- Dan Miracle
    • Saturday Director -- Paul Zehren
    • Sunday Director -- Geoff Dankert

Candidates must be nominated by an active member in the presence of a current board member. The nomination period ends Saturday, May 31st, and members may vote at all venues for two weeks beginning Sunday, June 1st.

This is your opportunity to help shape the future of the Club, and help plan our great events. And no, we're not accepting donations from Tony Rezko.

    Ask Hoyle

    Dear Hoyle --
Is there such a thing as an "illegal" cut? Do you have to cut a certain number of cards for it to pass muster? Is it cheating to just cut one card?
    - Cutty Snark

    Dear Cutty:
In the world of card-cutting, there are surely rules to live by. Being the easy-going, fun-loving club that we are, we don't necessarily enforce those rules. A cut is designed to prevent deck-stacking, hide the bottom card if it's been seen, and mix the deck up a little more.

You don't have to cut if you don't want to, but if you do, try to make it a cut that counts. If you cut just one card, it doesn't make you a cheater, but it does make you a tool.

If you have a question about Euchre strategy, ECC club rules, relationships or just life in general, send an e-mail to resident expert Hoyle at euchrechicago@yahoo.com. We promise all e- mails are anonymous, and the answers may just
