Euchre Club of Chicago Vol 4.4
Newsletter
July 31, 2007

Welcome to the Euchre Club of Chicago weekly newsletter, a wacky, entertaining collection of things about the club, upcoming events, and occasional things that amuse us from the Internets. And there's no truth to the rumor that the white power found in our pocket during a recent traffic incident actually belonged to us.

If you have ideas, gossip to divulge, humorous thoughts, abject praise, rampant criticism, or ideas to improve the club, send a note to euchrechicago@yahoo.com.

If you haven't been on the Euchre Club of Chicago website in a while, you'll notice things have changed! We're proud to introduce a whole new look for euchrechicago.org. All of your favorite event photos are there, some information about the club, a newsletter archive, and best of all -- you can instantly see your average at the click of the mouse (okay, a few clicks).

We're open to suggestions too. If you have ideas for website content, let us know and we'll do our best to add them on. Up next, an ECC business directory where you can list your business and contact information for the rest of the club -- not to mention the entire world.

So click here to visit the new website.

    Please Welcome - Dan Miracle

NEXT Tuesday, August 7, is the first official Tuesday Night Euchre Party! Join us August 7, and every Tuesday thereafter, at the Center on Halsted just north of Addison. Sign-up begins at 7:00pm, play begins at 7:30pm.

To find us, make your way to the second floor (take the staircase directly in front of the main entrance doors). When you ascend to the second floor, make your way to the room which runs along the entire front of the Center (so on your left if you're facing the second-floor reception desk). That entire room is our, er, playroom.

The Whole Foods has opened on the first floor, and with the opening of the Whole Foods is the underground parking lot too. Technically the parking lot belongs to Whole Foods, so as long as you buy your macrobiotic spear of asparagus (or a bottle of water or something), you're allowed to park in that lot.

Also, the Center is a BYO facility, so if you don't like what Whole Foods has to offer, the 7-11 across the street sells some fantastic 45-ouncers.

As for the prize, winners have two options -- the choice of five free drink tickets from Charlie's (which is located across the street from the Center -- each drink ticket is for a domestic beer or well drink, a $15.00 value), OR five free plays (the winner gets a free play card). If Tuesday nights really take off and we can cover it, we'll raise the prizes accordingly.

If you have any questions, feel free to check with any board member, including your Tuesday Night Host, Dan Miracle!

The Color Purple - Last Chance

If you haven't yet been to the Color Purple, the amazing musical now playing at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, Phil Forbes is offering you one last chance. If enough people are interested, Phil can put together a group for a Thursday night performance, with ticket prices at an alarmingly cheap $25.00.

This show is well worth the money -- in fact it's well worth much more than that. The show leaves Chicago for good at the end of September, and audiences are gobbling up the remaining tickets -- so do yourself a favor and email Phil at pforbes@marcrealty.com and tell him you want to see this wonderful show. You'll be glad you did. And so will Oprah.

Also, Phil still has a few seats left for The Phantom of the Opera on November 1st. Use the e-mail above if interested.

    Ask Hoyle

    Dear Hoyle,

What's the policy on cell phones during games? I've been left sitting a number of times while people either yap on the phone at the table (ignoring the game at hand) or leave the table hanging while they get up to take a call. What gives? People Harm Others Needing Ending

    Dear Phone--
General rule of the club is no phones at the tables ever. If there is an emergency and a player is expecting an important call, then we make exceptions, but no one should be holding conversations at the table during a game -- and leaving a table mid-game to take a call unless it's the aforementioned emergency.

Or it's some really hot phone sex, ioffer them a speaker phone.
