Dear Ron,
Welcome to the Euchre Club of Chicago weekly newsletter,
a wacky, entertaining collection of things about the club,
upcoming events, and occasional things that amuse us from
the Internets. And there's no truth to the rumor that we've
been tapped by the Mayor to head the Chicago Transit
Authority.
If you have ideas, gossip to divulge, humorous thoughts,
abject praise, rampant criticism, or ideas to improve the
club, send a note to
euchrechicago@yahoo.com.

Could you do better? |
 |
|
It's hard to believe a year has almost come and
gone, but it's true, and your humble newsletter
staff is here to remind you that if you've ever had
designs on running for office, now is your chance!
Beginning today, May 1, you can throw your hat into
the ring for any of the seven positions on the ECC
Board of Directors. To officially be on the list of
candidates, you must be nominated by another member
in the presence of a current board member.
Nominations will be accepted through the end of May,
and the election of the 2007-2008 Board of Directors
will take place during the first two weeks of June.
If you have any questions on what any of the
board positions entail, please don't hesitate to
chat with any of the existing board members.
And to any of you considering a run for office, Good
Luck!

You mean those damn kids are still singing? |

In what seemed like the world's longest (and
dullest) telethon, American Idol last week managed
to raise like $70 Million, while boring most of
America to tears. And they decided to be nice and
not kick anyone off the show. So this week, TWO
lucky saps will be taking a jetplane to oblivion --
think you know who? If you correctly pick the
eliminated singer, you could win a free play! Visit
our
survey by clicking here and tell us who is going
home (and be sure to leave us your first and last
name too). All entries are due by Wednesday, May
2 at 7:00pm CDT. Once the show is over, we'll
draw TWO names at random from everyone who
correctly identified the weakest Idol.
Oh, and if you take the survey, be sure to click the
"Next" button at the bottom of the page, then "Done"
to submit your survey.
Good Luck!

If you've been coming to cards a little early and
wondered what those people are playing with 13 cards
in their hand (Imagine! A card game with 13 cards at
a time!), they're playing BRIDGE, and if you'd like
to learn, they're looking for new players.
Feel free to send a note to
jromalis@chicagogsb.edu and let him know you'd
like to play.

Calling Dr. Love |
 |
|
We bet he never gets tired of hearing that.
If you've gotten to know John Love over the past
year or so, then you've gotten to know a great guy,
and we hope you'll join us in wishing him farewell
before he moves away to Boston (we hear they play
Euchre there too). Please join us at John's official
going away party on Saturday, May 19 at 3pm, T's Bar
and Grill (on Clark st.). If you'd like to go,
please send an e-mail to John's great friend
pinata and let him know you're coming so he can
get an idea of the crowd. Good luck John, we'll miss
you!

"Paul [Zehren] got set on a LONER?!? - The
entire club on Saturday, Apri 29. Frankly, it's not
that uncommon to hear this, but we never get tired
of it.

Ask Hoyle |
 |
I would like to ask a slightly younger member
of the Club out for dinner, but fear that the age
difference between us (of almost 30 years) might
spook the little guy. I do sense some positive
pheromonal interaction between us, though I fear
rejection like I fear getting set on a loner. Could
you please let him know of my interest and provide
some feedback before I embarrass the hell out of
myself? If rejected, I might have to drop out of the
club (and re-join after he moves in August).
-Daddy
Dear Daddy:
Well, enquiring minds are dying to know who the
object of your affection (OOYA) is, but we'll have
to play it cool, and far be it from us to ever stand
in the way of a May/December romance. So attention
all you youngin's in the club -- if Daddy's
description of you sounds familiar, and you'd like
to meet Daddy, send us an e-mail and we'll pass your
interest along to Daddy. If nothing else, at least
you'll get a free dinner out of the deal.
If you have a question about Euchre strategy,
ECC club rules, relationships or just
life in general, send an e-mail to resident
expert Hoyle at
euchrechicago@yahoo.com. We promise all e- mails
are anonymous, and the answers may just surprise
you.

An open letter from ECC member Jim Selegean

Dear Friends,
This may come as a surprise to you: I have
decided to run the Chicago Marathon again this year!
That's right 26.2 miles...as if last year wasn't
painful enough. It's all part of the National AIDS
Marathon Training Program, which raises money for
AIDS Foundation of Chicago. I am committed to
raising at least $1,400 by July 5th, although I
would like to raise even more. I am asking for your
support. Any donation you can make to help me meet
my goal would be appreciated! $10, $50, $100. Any
amount will help. You can visit my web site at
www.aidsmarath on.com to make a donation on my
behalf. It's easy. Just choose "Sponsor A Runner",
Chicago, enter my name or runner number which is
1226 and you can use you credit card. I have also
attached a direct link:
Whether you are able to make a donation at this
time or not, won't you please help me spread the
word by telling 5 to 10 of your friends. I want to
thank you for supporting me in this big undertaking.
When I hit the road on October 7th to complete the
Chicago Marathon, I'll know that you helped me and
so many others along the way.
Sincerely
Jim
