Welcome to the Euchre Club of Chicago weekly newsletter
-- a collection of event information, club news, gossip,
advice, and things that amuse us from the Internets. And
there's no truth to the rumor that we're crossing the picket
line to bring you this week's newsletter.
If you have ideas, gossip to divulge, humorous thoughts,
abject praise, rampant criticism, ideas to improve the club,
or you're just kinda lonely and want to talk, send a note to
euchrechicago@yahoo.com.

Too early to think Spring Break? |
 |
Even though the snow has just started to fall in
Chicago, it's never too early to think about Spring
Break! Interested in joining the Euchre Club of
Chicago in sunny Florida this March? Then read on!
We've worked out a deal with several properties in
fabulous (and gay) Fort Lauderdale for an ECC
vacation package. Right now we're looking at 4 day/5
night packages starting at $500/person (based on
double occupancy, including airfare and hotel) or
$700/person for 6 days/7 nights. Many rooms can
accommodate more than two people, so if you have a
foursome willing to share a room, you can lower your
costs significantly.
There are several options when it comes to
properties, but all of them offer heated pools,
hot-tubs, and, um, clothing optional areas for the
more adventurous. We'll also put together nights on
the town with a few options -- and we may even drop
in on the Euchre Club of Fort Lauderdale.
If you're interested in joining us during the first
week of March, please send an email to
euchrechicago@yahoo.com as soon as possible.
Rooms in Fort Lauderdale sell out quickly, and in
order to keep our discounted rate we'll need to
secure at least 10 rooms no later than Thanksgiving.
If you have any questions, email the address above
or check with ECC president Ron Hall. And please
leave the thongs at home.

Never too late to pay your dues |
 |
A special notice to all of the newbies: please don't
forget to pay your membership dues after your third
play with the club. Membership has many, many perks,
and you'll never know until you pay up your $15.00.
And for any old-timers who haven't paid up yet --
for shame!

Things that Amuse Us from the Internets |
 |
With the writers' strike in full force, Hollywood
may soon come to its knees (and not in a good way).
With a complete lack of scripts, TV studios may be
forced to go back to the vaults to produce some
leftovers from years gone by.
Imagine what would happen if FOX's 24 had been
around in 1994 -- a time before cell phones and
satellite imagery. Now you don't have to imagine:

here to watch the presumed lost trailer from the
never-aired 1994 season.

Another reason why Sundays rule |
 |
Sundays just got even better. Now, not only do
you win $30 in drinks from the bar, but you also get
to pick the music the following week! Are you a
Disco Diva, a Showtune Sally or a Devo Devotee? Now
you can inflict your "taste" on the rest of us, for
better or for worse.
Charlie's features XM Satellite Radio, so check
out the line up by clicking
here for a complete channel listing.
If a Sunday winner fails to show up the following
Sunday, he/she forfeits the chance to choose, and
the music choice reverts back to Sunday Director
Geoff.

Ask Hoyle |

Dear Hoyle,
How do the gas pumps know when they've
finished filling your tank in order to shut off?
- Flustered Under Extreme Learning
Dear FUEL:
The gas pump is actually a series of tubes (not to
be confused with the Internet). The gas shuts off
when a valve at the top of the tube closes, but how
does the valve know when to shut off? The gas nozzle
is actually two tubes in one. Aside from the big
tube that pours the gas, there's also a second, much
smaller tube, that allows for airflow while pumping.
When the tank gets filled, the airflow is blocked,
and the shut-off valve, well, shuts off, saving your
car's finish and your shoes.
