Dear Ron,
Welcome to the Euchre Club of Chicago weekly newsletter
-- a collection of event information, club news, gossip,
advice, and things that amuse us from the Internets. And
there's no truth to the rumor that you're reading this
newsletter a day later than you usually do.
If you have ideas, gossip to divulge, humorous thoughts,
abject praise, rampant criticism, ideas to improve the club,
or you're just kinda lonely and want to talk, send a note to
euchrechicago@yahoo.com.

Holiday Party Reminder |
 |
Don't forget, we're still taking RSVP's for the
annual Holiday party. This year's party will be on
Sunday, December 2 at Athena Restaurant in
Greektown. Sign- up begins at Noon, lunch at 1pm and
tournament play (with partners!) starts at 2pm. As
always, there'll be great prizes for the winning
teams too!
Please keep in mind that you must sign up with a
partner for this tournament, and both you and your
partner must be present to check in (we don't do the
"he's just parking the car" thing for tournaments).
If you don't have a partner, let us know and we'll
do our best to pair you up -- but we need to have
even tables, so the very last team to check in may
not be able to play if it leaves us with half a
table.
If you would like to RSVP you can sign your name
(and your partner's name) on the sign-up sheet
located at any play venue, or send an email to
euchrechicago@yahoo.com. Send us an email if you
need to be paired up too.
For more information on the tourney, see Sunday
director Geoff Dankert.

Spring Break -- Just 4 Months Away! |
 |
As the weather outside turns colder, it may be time
to lift your spirits with thoughts of the first ever
ECC Spring Break! We're looking at March 5 through 9
(Wednesday through Sunday) in Fort Lauderdale at the
Grand Resort (click
here to visit their website). Based on double
occupancy, airfare and hotel should be about $500
per person -- less if you shack up more than two in
a room.
If the club can book at least 10 rooms, we'll be
able to lower the price even more. We're planning
some beach outings, bar nights (for all tastes) and
plenty of Euchre fun around the pools.
If you'd like more information, or to put your
name on the reservation list, send us an email at
euchrechicago@yahoo.com. The rooms book up
fairly quickly (many resorts are already sold out),
and airfare is only going to go up, so get your name
on the list as soon as possible. Reservations will
close by December 15.
See ECC president Ron Hall if you have any other
questions.

Things that Amuse Us from the Internets |
 |
It's been a rather slow week on the Internets,
and nothing's really amused us. If there's something
that's made you laugh (not counting you, Lou), then
send it to us in an email and we'll include it in a
future newsletter.
In the meantime, here's one for all of you who
feel like a little chicken tonight (again -- not
you, Lou!), and like your chicken a little
subservient. Click
here and make the chicken bend to your whims. Or
your fancy.

Ask Hoyle |
 |
Dear Hoyle,
Is it true that the Euchre Club of Chicago
keeps a record of anal--er-- annual "bottom" scores?
And if so, whom is taking up the rear? -
Sincerely Sixteen
Dear Sincerely:
That is correct, the club does indeed track your
every play, your every score and your every
humiliating low score. Who is at the bottom of the
list you ask? If you look back to the entire history
of the club, one of the lowest scores ever belongs
to a current player, in fact the current president
is the proud owner of a 14 (points, that is). There
were a few scores lower than that, but the poor
player never came back -- would you?
For the year so far, that paltry 14 has been
beaten by an even lower score, and while we won't
name names, it also belongs to a former ECC
president. Perhaps there's a tradition there -- or
proof that no matter how good you play, sometimes
it's all in the cards. That counts for anyone who
gets a 56 too.

Project Runway Recap
|
|
|
|
ECC member Geoff Dankert will be contributing a new
feature to the newsletter -- a weekly recap of the
gayest show on television, "Project Runway." Without
further ado, Week One:
On this first episode, we only have time for
thumbnails of the designers, so busy are they
running across Bryant Park to grab fabric for their
first challenge: a garment that expresses their
design aesthetic. Much drawing, cutting and sewing
follows. Tim Gunn drops by Parsons The New School
And Tackle to prissily furrow his brow at
Christian's sleeves and Simone's complete lack of
time management. Eliza deliberately stains some
beautiful silk and makes a dress with a perplexing
train that looks like the model has pooed Joseph's
Technicolor Dreamcoat. Then, judgment. Rami wins;
the gown is beautifully draped. Chicago Steven's
black suit is fierce, and his model works it to
death. He's through to the next round. Eliza's dress
trips her model, but she's in. Simone gets auf'd;
her frock is a slapdash fright. Orange Michael Kors
calls it "dressed in the dark." Next time: more of
Rami in a wife-beater? Please?
The tournamet is free to all current members who
have also played a minimum of three times since July
1, 2007. If you have any questions, check with a
director or board member.
And ho ho ho!
